Michigan Employers: 2025 Earned Sick Time Poster

What’s New in 2025?
The updated Earned Sick Time Act (ESTA) introduces key changes affecting sick time accrual, usage limits, and employer responsibilities. These updates apply to all Michigan employers and must be reflected in workplace labor law postings.
Key Changes to the Earned Sick Time Act
Accrual Rate: Employees earn 1 hour of paid sick time for every 30 hours worked.
Usage Limits:
Small businesses (10 or fewer employees): Can cap annual usage at 40 hours.
Larger employers (11+ employees): Can cap usage at 72 hours.
Frontloading Option: Employers may provide all sick time at the start of the year to avoid tracking accruals. If frontloading is used, carryover is not required.
Carryover Rules: Employers using an accrual system must allow carryover, but it is capped at 40 or 72 hoursdepending on employer size.
Waiting Period for New Hires: Employees hired on or after February 21, 2025, may be required to wait up to 120 days before using accrued sick time.
Employer Notice Requirement: Businesses must provide written notice of these changes and update labor law posters within 30 days of the law’s effective date.
